Agentic engineering · Talks & workshops · Joakim Riedel

I build the harness around the agent.

Production software since 1997, production AI since 2023. I shipped a frontier-model agent that paying customers use daily—70+ gated tools, ~1,000 eval assertions, full cost governance—and I teach senior teams to build the same.

Harness
engineering

Everything between the model and the customer.

A frontier model is not a product. The harness is: the tools it may call, the gates it must pass, the evals that decide what ships, and the meters that say what it cost. Built and operated in production since 2023.

Evals
Prompt suites and deterministic, JSON-schema and model-judged assertions tied to production snapshots, gating every prompt and model rollout.
Guardrails
Permission-aware tools, human approval gates for destructive actions and strict structured outputs: defences against injection, leakage and hallucination propagation.
Cost governance
Per-request ledgers, quotas, budgets, kill switches and prompt-cache accounting. Every run has a price tag and an owner.
Observability
OpenTelemetry GenAI traces across streaming multi-step execution, parallel tools and concurrency.
Interoperability
External MCP, versioned public APIs, open-source tools, and scheduled and event-triggered agents.

What I run in production, I teach in person.

Where agentic development is taking the profession

Argued from production evidence, not demos: what changed when the agent started doing the typing, what broke, and what a senior team should do about it this quarter.

Propstreet

2017– · Co-founder & CTO
The harness, in production

Venture-backed AI-native dealmaking platform for commercial real estate. Propstreet Agent runs on the OpenAI Responses API: streaming multi-step execution, parallel tool calls and authorization-gated tools—serving paying B2B customers since 2023. Board member from 2026.

Loggad

2025– · Founder
Agent-first from the first commit

Agentic journals for valuable objects—a record of provenance, care and value that maintains itself. Built end-to-end with agents as the working method the book describes.

Monotio

2017– · Owner
Consultancy, talks and this site

Advisory and capability building for teams adopting agentic development: architecture, evals, guardrails and production rollout.

Earlier — Boreda, commercial-property valuation software: built to acquisition by Värderingsdata in 2012, today part of MSCI.
The book

Agent Driven Developer

or the Art of Disappearing
Serial · 1 of 10 chapters published

A book on building software when the agent does the typing—written from production evidence, publishing one chapter at a time.
